They say 1 in four deaths are caused by cancer?

Well I'm beginning to think that statistic is wrong. Why is that? I haven't had many close people die to me, but the ones that have or are dying? Cancer.

Close friend in high school, he died my senior year, his freshman year in high school. Of brain cancer.

Then there was Drew's grandma. Died 4th of July two summers ago, ovarian cancer.

And now both of my grandma's. Grandma in Sweden has days/week or so left. Stomach cancer.

Grandma in North Carolina. Breast and brain cancer. On her last days as well.

Both of my grandmas at the same time. I'm having a very hard time dealing with it, especially being far away from both of them right now.

So this 1 out of 4 statistic? I'm starting to think it's way off.

  1. I know how hard it is to deal with so much loss in such a short amount of time. It's really difficult but I promise you'll make it through. I'm sure both of your grandmothers know how much you love them and that's really what matters more than being physically closer.

The best thing to do is take care of yourself right now. That's really all you can do.

And know that we're thinking about you!

  2. :( I lost my Grandma a few years ago to liver cancer. At first I was pissed off, really mad at all the crap in the world. I finally realized that I want to try and be as healthy as possible and enjoy life even more. When I knew my grandma was sick, I had a little "interview" session with her and asked her things about her childhood and what her favorite memories were and I wrote it all down in a notebook. I hope you are able to compile all your favorite memories with them and remember how special those moments were, and that you are the only person who will be able to have those memories! :)

  3. What a scary statistic- Everyone has been affected in some way by this disease- whether they themselves have gone through it, a parent, grandparent, etc.

  4. I'm sorry you've had so much loss - my grandparents died within one month of each other, my grandfather from lung cancer (grandma from heart disease). I live in a town with a high leukemia rate, and no one can figure out why.

Here from Finding Friends Friday, am now following - would love a follow back at Dropped Stitches.

  5. Thanks ladies. It's So hard to realize I'm going to lose both of my grandmothers within days of each other. Going from two amazing grandmothers to none living? I don't even understand how to cope with that.
