Top Two Tuesday: What I want to accomplish this year.

Tough one. I have SO much I want to accomplish- there is always a HUGE to do list.

But if I can only choose two..

1. Living a healthier lifestyle- I have already started this and will continue! We are doing this through trying to eat almost all organic, now that fall is here taking longer walks daily, going hiking and other outdoor activities on the weekend, and I'm going to try to do pilates/yoga/arm weights at least 3 times a week. We have gone mostly organic- but I need to get better and figure out a way of doing it with out costing 200-300 a week. That's a huge goal of mine. Before organic we would spend 120-150 a week on groceries and I'd like to continue to do so with organic even though organic is so much more money. But I think I can accomplish this by not wasting food and planning out meals. Any ideas?!?!

2. This one is also super important to me. BECOME FLUENT IN SWEDISH. I can understand about 90 percent of Swedish when I hear it, but when I'm trying to speak it I would say I'm able to say about 70 percent of what I want to say in conversation. Reading and writing it? Eh, maybe 50 percent? How will I accomplish this? I'm going to try to only speak Swedish to Jasper for at least one hour every day. Whenever I feel like watching/listening to something on TV I'll go to the computer and turn on the swedish channel we get on our laptop since its really good for my swedish to listen to others speaking it. I'm going to order more books in Swedish and force myself to read them- this is a tough one! When I come across words while speaking/reading that I don't know I will write it down in a notebook (which i went and got this weekend!) and look up the word later. Lastly- Jasper started swedish preschool yesterday and his teacher ONLY speaks swedish to them (more on that later) and while he is there I hang out in the lobby with all the other swedish moms and dads, but I need to strike up more conversations with them and include myself. They all know each other and speak super fast to each other in Swedish and so last year i just brought a book and would sit and read. NOT THIS YEAR! And I've got to say I'm so proud of myself yesterday that i went up to a mom with a 4 month old baby and started up a conversation about the baby in Swedish and I stood and talked to her for 15 minutes! Yay me!

What are some things you guys want to accomplish?
Oh my poor body. Im seriously SO sore from yesterday's 90 minute yoga sesh. How do those 65 year olds do this if Im this sore today?!? Oh I'll most definitely be going back. I have been converted.

But if there is someone who does yoga could you please explain the whole "Sending your energy vibes out to the universe part"? I'm a Liiiitle bit confused about that part.

Senior citizens yoga..

That's what I thought I had signed up for when I walked into a yoga class at our local rec center this morning. I have never in my life done yoga. I have done a few pilates DVDs and gone to a couple of pilates classes (months ago) but I have never done yoga, even though I live in Colorado, which has got to be the hippie/yoga capital of the world.

When I got to the rec I realized I had looked at Saturdays schedule not Sundays and there were no pilates classes on Sundays and since I got my ass out of bed and came all the way here I was going to do Something. But me and cardio? We don't get along. In fact I hate her with a passion. Anything that is going to get me breathing heavily and sweating? No thanks. But yoga, okay I'd give it a try.

I walk in 5 min early and there is No one under the the age of 60 in the class, except for maybe the instructor who I thought was like 40 but then when she started talking about her grandson writing stories or something I figured she is probably a little older than 40 if she has a grandchild that can write. I kept waiting for the 'young people' to come in. NOPE. There were 12 adults- in their 60's and yes, even 70's. A mix of men and women. And then there was me. Who has never done yoga in my life.

I thought at first well great, at least I'll be able to keep up with these oldies who may or may not have had hip replacements. Oh how wrong I was. These men and women could do things with their bodies I could never even imagine. At one point I'm in between two gentlemen (i believe late 60's or early 70's) and they both have BOTH of their LEGS BEHIND THEIR HEADS. It was sick, in an extremely fascinating way. Could I get even ONE of my legs anywhere near my head? oh hell now. But now I must go back and figure out how to get flexible enough to be able to keep up with the senior citizens.

If you pray..please pray for this to stop

When we got home from our 4 day weekend 3 am Tuesday morning I noticed a weird smell right when I walked in my door. Maybe if I had been thinking clearly- which I def. wasn't at 3 am- I would have noticed that it smelled outside too, but I didn't. I thought it was our apartment that smelled weird. I couldn't name the smell- and the only thing different at our place was that my cousin who just moved out here to get his masters at DU was staying at our place for a few days. He has cystic fibrosis and spends 30 minutes twice a day hooked up to this nebulizer thing blowing out steam with his medicine.

I was getting ready to ask if he knew what that weird smell was when I saw all of his medicine set up on the table and he said he had just gotten done doing it. I immediately felt like a major bitch because I almost just asked him what the weird smell was when it clearly was his medicine that is keeping him alive. Right?

Wrong. The smell I was smelling in my apartment was from the gas/fire going on about 12 miles down the road in Boulder. It's been going on for over 4 days now, and they think it could be another 10 before it's controlled. Over 160 houses have been destroyed, and they are expecting more to be before it's over. The crazy and truly amazing thing is there have been no reported injuries.

Today I have seen signs everywhere asking for donations for used clothing etc, and of course I'll be getting stuff ready to go have donated, but the thing about these homes that were destroyed is that they are million dollar houses/mansions at the base of the mountain and I kind of doubt the people living there even want our used clothing.. But nevertheless I will get some stuff together and hope someone gets some use out of it.

Labor day trip

We had a great 4 day weekend back in Iowa. Every time we go back it makes me wish more and more that we were moving back, which me might be at some point in the future, who knows. It's just so hard being 10 hours away from any family, and Jasper LOVES being with his grammy (my mom) gramma and grampa (drews parents) and all of his aunts, uncles and cousin.

Friday I had my final dress fitting!!! It fits perfectly and I looove it. Can't wait to wear it in 45 days!! HOLY COW WE ARE GETTING MARRIED IN 45 DAYS!!

The rest of the day hung out with family and Anita and Allan from Sweden who were visiting my mom. They are 65 and 70 and still running marathons and going cross country skiing literally across the whole country of Sweden. They are in so much better shape at 70 then I am at 24- number one reason why I love sweden!

Saturday we went to Ledges- a state park which was beautiful. And yes there is a picture of 70 year old Allan carrying his 65 year old wife across the water in the road. Too cute. The hikes we went on? Killed me- them? They wanted to do more.

Saturday night was my friends wedding- it was a beautiful wedding, and way to much fun was had at the reception. Can you say too many free strawberry margaritas? But we got a condo with two other couples right next door so no worries!!

Sunday and Monday were more fun/relaxing days with the family. I usually squeeze so much in while back, but this time it was great to spend a lot of relaxing family time.

And Jasper did amazing during his 22 hrs in the car roundtrip- and now he is just as addicted to Harry Potter (dvd player in car) as I am!! YAY! Hope everyones weekend was great!

Rooaaadddtrrriiippp!

As we speak (type) I SHOULD be backing for our trip since I'll be leaving in roughly 2.5 hours, but my lunch is in the oven so I've got a few minutes.

We are driving back to Iowa for the weekend. YAAY. It definitely took me moving out of Iowa to Really appreciate the simpleness and beauty that is the midwest. Makes me really appreciate it and look forward to every visit. This weekend a good friend is getting married AND our old babysitters from sweden (like back when I was 3) are coming to visit. Actually they are already there now- but we get to see them this weekend! They were like grandparents to us in Sweden when I was younger, and we got the chance to visit them last year while there. Suuuper excited to see them- the catch? They only speak Swedish. But it's great practice for me!

Oooh and I also get to have my final fitting for my wedding dress tomorrow! So I better not even gain 1 lb inbetween now and end of october!

Hope everyone has a fabulous labor day weekend!

Oh and it was in the high 50's/low 60's all morning! I was quick to bust out the skinny jeans and boots! Goodbye high 90's, hello fall.
